I know of one case where they've restored an item to a hacked player. But it was 1 special item out of everything else that he had.
Right. My main point was they don't go around spawning items willynilly. And they certainly won't replace entire inventories.

Even if ANet admits they/NCsoft were the cause of all the problems, I highly doubt they'd do anything like that.

Maybe they could give all the hacked players a special hat. Or maybe a Divine Aura type deal that lets everyone know they were hacked because of someone else's incompetence. That would be rather epic.

Aion recently rolled back a whole server.

A lot of people received too much cash in a reward bug, 34trillion too much. The usual reward amount is less than 100k.
Chaos ensued.

OK... there is a lot of speculation here from ppl that dont understand how database system works... and how gw works...

First in gw they did whole game rollbacks... 3-4 times as i remember... at first that wasnt possible... thats how we got black dye inflation... ectos etc... circa 2005...

also every item in the game has an unique id in the database... so they know your crystalline is just yours... and it can be tracked thru all the trades and accounts... and u cannot dupe it or database will crash or become corrupt...

ok...

now... the only real problem is manpower and software... they don't have (i presume this i dont really know) working copy of tracking and restore software for live servers... its a little complex because of the system gw operates on... but its doable for them...

second problem is the manpower required to deal with all the claims and issues and scams u ppl would try to get away with... in abusing this feature... person a changes his mind and says person b scammed him for 45e in trade of some crappy bow... k... GM needs to know if thats the market price for the bow... or are ectos tradable curency in the game atm... or whatever... they just dont want to deal with whiney kids all day long... since they have so few employees hiring 100+ more ppl to restore acc's and stuff is just not profitable...

and third since they are working on gw2 and gw1 is pretty much dead for them long time now they have no interest in that... just like all the auction houses or any other stuff would like to see in this experimental game model...

k?...

Not sure about ANet, but I've heard from quite a few sources that NCSoft has given Aion players all their items back, from their gear and money to their trash.

Yeah, I've heard that as well. It would be nice if ANet started doing that. The outcome of the account issue might be the determining factor is them changing their stance.

They said they can't do various things due to various limitations of various aspects of GW. They can't restore accounts. They can't spawn items. They can't add more storage (remember how we used to discuss about this and how their database is SQL or blob or w/e it was? I lol'd when I think back to that and look at what we got now). Etc etc.

They also forgot to add "for free" after saying those "can't"s. Evidently they can do pretty much everything when the money's right.

For shame.

I'd imagine this could well be on their wish list of things they'd like to add to GW2, can imagine an indepth tracking system + the ability to individually rollback would be helpful for a number of reasons.

Note I said wish list. Wishes don't always come true...

and you know this how? during the armbrace duping debacle, during testing, fenix and i were able to dupe a red dye, a mini jade armor, and a zelnehlun's longbow.

i actually still have those items sitting on a storage character.

They probably only searched for armbrace dupes, generated a report, then handled the accounts with armbrace duplications.

Eh. You have to remember who spoke the word "can't" in those cases. But that's a can of worms I don't want to open right now.

I hear that if you are in certain guilds, have certain friends, or are just considered "upper echelon" you can, and will get items replaced.

aint exactly hard to have a friend from the states or UK log into a public computer, fail your password a few times, then log in with the details you sent over msn, put all your stuff onto his account, then another account, then have yourself pm support because you got hacked.

no ip traces, no proof of who logged into the account

looks like a good formula to get at least 3 accounts banned. not to mentioned keylogged from a -public- 'puter.

Eh, you'd naturally change the password after you discovered you got "hacked". The keylogger is not an issue.

Yes, that's like shoving all-in heads up in no limit. You'll either double up or bust out if called.

I think it is possible. Whether it is probable is another matter.
They have the most trivial amounts of data for the most arbitrary things in GW... chat logs, actions, travels, visits, access logs, farming code, etc... they are able to do rollbacks for GW, so why not account restorations.

Like I said, It is possible, whether it is something they can easily do is another matter... there systems may just be designed in such a way that it is a complicated matter.

Totally incorrect.

The reason duping was able to be 'traced' and bans handed out to everyone who duped, was because when you duped an item, it made an EXACT copy of it. That meant that there were two items with the same ID on ANet's servers, which meant they could trace which items had been duped.
